Functions & How to Use Camera Control on iPhone 16

Multymeter.com – Smartphone: iPhone 16 has a “Camera Control” feature, a new physical button located on the right side of the device, designed to provide a more intuitive and quick way to operate camera functions. Here are the functions and how to use them:

Main Camera Control Functions:

Camera Quick Access: Pressing the Camera Control button will immediately open the Camera app, even when the iPhone is locked.
Take a Photo: Pressing the button again while the Camera app is open will take a photo.
Record Video: Pressing and holding the button while the Camera app is open will start recording a video, and will stop when you release it.
• Zoom Control: You can zoom in or out by sliding your finger up or down on the surface of the button.
Exposure Adjustment: Slide your finger left or right on the button to adjust the exposure level of the photo or video.
Focus Adjustment: On iOS 18.2 and above, you can lightly press the button to lock focus and exposure on the subject, then press all the way to take a picture.
Camera Lens Selection: You can quickly switch between lenses (Ultra Wide, Wide, Telephoto) by lightly tapping the button to bring up the lens selection menu, then swiping and tapping again to select.
Photographic Styles Settings: You can quickly preview and select Photographic Styles by lightly tapping the button to bring up the menu, then swiping to see the options and tapping to select.

Access Other Features (customizable): Through settings, you may be able to customize the function of this button to access other features such as Magnifier or Code Scanner.
Interacting with Apple Intelligence: This button can also be used to activate camera-related Apple Intelligence features, such as identifying objects in photos.


How to Use Camera Control:

Open Camera: Press the Camera Control button once. The Camera app will open.
Take a Photo: Once the Camera app is open, press the Camera Control button once again to take a photo.
Record a Video: Press and hold the Camera Control button for as long as you want to record a video. Release to stop recording.


Control Zoom:


• Lightly press the button to activate the controls.
• Slide your finger up to zoom in and down to zoom out.
• Press again to take a photo at the selected zoom level.


Adjust Exposure:


○ Lightly press the button to activate the controls.
○ Slide your finger left to decrease exposure (darker image) and right to increase exposure (brighter image).
○ Press again to take a photo at the selected exposure level.


Lock Focus and Exposure (iOS 18.2+):


• Point the camera at your subject.
• Lightly press the Camera Control button until you feel haptic feedback. This indicates focus and exposure are locked.
• Recompose if necessary, then fully press the button to take the photo.


Select a Camera Lens:


○ Lightly press the Camera Control button to bring up the lens menu.
○ Slide your finger left or right to navigate through lens options (for example, 0.5x for Ultra Wide, 1x for Wide, 2x or more for Telephoto).
○ Lightly press the desired lens option again to select it.


Using Photographic Styles:


• Lightly press the Camera Control button to bring up the menu.
• Slide your finger to cycle through the different Photographic Styles (e.g., Standard, Rich Contrast, Vibrant, Warm, Cool).
• Lightly press on the style you want to apply it.


Adjusting the Button Pressure Level:

You can adjust the Camera Control button’s pressure sensitivity in Settings > Accessibility > Camera Control. You can choose between Default, Lighter, or Deeper to suit your preference.

Changing the Single-Click Function (to open another app):

You can change the action that occurs when you single-press the Camera Control button in Settings > Camera > Camera Control > Click to Open. You can choose between Camera (default), Code Scanner, Magnifier, a supported third-party camera app, or None.

• Familiarize yourself with the different gestures (light press, full press, swipe) to get the most out of this feature.
