Foxconn Moves iPhone Production Facility from China to India

Multymeter.comBusiness & Finance: There are rumors that the U.S. smartphone production facilities, iPhones, will move from China to India. As reported by Bloomberg, on Friday (3/3/2023), the iPhone factory will acquire 300 hectares of land in the area of Bangalore, India.

The land is planned for the construction of a factory for the production of iPhone that was previously produced in China. Foxconn Technology Group, which is Apple’s manufacturing partner for iPhone production, is preparing an investment in India worth up to $700 million.

The reason for moving production facilities from China to India was due to large-scale demonstrations by factory workers, which hampered the production of the iPhone 14. Another reason was the growing Covid-19 pandemic in China.

In addition to these two reasons, this move is also to reduce Foxconn’s dependence on China, as we know, the geopolitical situation between Washington and Beijing is heating up.

With Foxconn’s transition from China to Bangalore, India, it is expected that it can bring positive results to improve the economy in the area, with many job opportunities opening up for local residents. Apart from that, production conditions in India are also seen as more stable. In recent years, India has started to become an attractive area for investors from tech giants to build manufacturing facilities. Even so, Foxconn still has facilities in China. being precise in Zhengzhou, a small city that has been known as the ‘iPhone city’.***
