Multymeter.com-Technology: General Motors has revealed the latest electric SUV type car which is expected to be the cheapest electric SUV car on the market when it goes into production in about a year. The Chevrolet Equinox EV will have a starting price of around $30,000, which would at least make it one of the cheapest electric vehicles of any kind.
Most electric vehicles available today have an average price of around $47,500, according to Edmunds.com. At $30,000 for the Equinox EV, of course, it’s for the standard version with no optional features. These prices do not include a credit tax, but GM is not currently eligible for any electric vehicle credit tax, and it is uncertain whether any GM vehicles will be eligible under the new rules.
Among the EVs on the market for the 2022 model year, only the Nissan Leaf has a base price of $28,500, which is cheaper and which is now eligible for a $7,500 federal tax credit. There are several other models in the lower price range to between $30,000, such as Chevrolet’s Bolt EV and the SUV-ish Bolt EUV.
Despite having the same name, the Equinox EV is very little different from a small SUV. Gasoline-powered, which is Chevrolet’s second best-selling model after the Silverado pick-up. GM is taking a similar approach with the Chevrolet Silverado EV pickup and the Chevrolet Blazer EV SUV, both of which were launched earlier this year. They only share their name and their basic size and shape with the gas model. All three, along with GM’s GMC Hummer EV truck and Cadillac Lyriq SUV, are all built around the same electric vehicle battery pack design and structure.
The Equinox EV is nearly three inches wider than the gas model and slightly shorter, measured from roof to ground. Unlike some other electric vehicles, it doesn’t have a front trunk. Instead, the area under the hood houses the electronics and electric motors. GM designers and engineers decided to cut costs and avoid the time-consuming hassle and development costs of trying to create space under the hood, instead, as a better experience inside the cabin, said Scott Bell, GM vice president for Chevrolet.
The Equinox EV will be available with two paint colors, something that has been an industry trend for several years. Customers who get the sportier-looking RT model will get a black roof, with a different body color, while customers who get the standard LT model will be able to choose a contrasting white roof.
The cheapest version is the 1LT Blazer type with a single 210 horsepower engine, which only drives the front wheels. It will have a total driving range on a full charge of approximately 250 miles. The Equinox EV 1LT SUV will also be available with a longer range, up to 300 miles and with all-wheel drive which has a range of up to 280 miles, but this version may be sold at a higher price. For The all-wheel-drive version will have power of 290 horsepower generated from two electric motors.
The best version either, namely; the sportier-looking 2LT and RS versions will have a range of up to 300 miles or all-wheel-drive with a range of up to 280 miles. Unlike the more expensive Blazer EV , the Equinox EV will only be available with front-wheel drive. There will be no option for rear-wheel drive. ***
