Let’s Protect Ourselves From Electrical Hazards By Installing ELCB (Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker) In Home Electrical Installations

Multymeter.com-Electrical Engineering: ELCB (Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker) is an electrical device whose shape and function are almost similar to MCB (Miniature Circuit Breaker), which both function as electric circuit breaker. The difference is, MCB (Miniature Circuit Breaker) functions as an electric circuit breaker.

if there is an electrical short and there is an overload of electricity consumption. While the ELCB (Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker) functions even more sensitively, namely a circuit breaker when there is a leak in the electrical installation.

ELCB (Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker) can also be called GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Intervupter, and can also be called RCID (Residual Current Operated Devices) will detect leakage of electric current by taking the value of the difference in current that is loaded between Phase and Neutral, and between  Phase with Phase, a value of 0 is if the electrical installation is in good condition.

This installation is very effective for the protection of people, goods and buildings from the dangers of electric shock and fire.

ELCB has a very high sensitivity, so it can detect the quality of the installation of electrical installations in a building, because there is even a small amount of leakage current, the ELCB will cut off the electric current very quickly.

With this tool on the electrical installation network in buildings, it can avoid the danger of electrocution to humans or even fire disasters.  This tool will work very quickly to disconnect the electric current if there is an electric shock to humans and also if there is a short circuit in only < 0.1 seconds, because the ELCB will detect a value of more than 0 due to electricity flowing to earth through humans.

The following are the sizes of the ELCB and their functions:

 ○ ELCB 6 mA – 30 mA

This size has a high sensitivity so it is suitable for protecting humans from electric shock.

 ○ ELCB 100mA – 1000mA

Has a medium sensitive (MID – Sensitivity) suitable for protecting objects from fire hazards.

For how to install it, it can be paired with a fuse (MCB), or directly connected from a power source.

3.MCB (Miniature Circuit Breaker) as a fuse.

ELCB (Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker) has several, such as: type AC (Alternating Current) as described above, ELCB also has type A, for AC (Alternating Current) and DC (Direct Current) pulsating, and type B & F  for AC (Alternating Current) and DC (Direct Current).

With its enormous benefits, ELCB is suitable to be installed in all electrical installations for our protection, especially children who do not understand the dangers of electricity, and also protect the building and its contents.***
